President: Peggy J. Suzio, IIDA
Peggy Suzio is Associate Faculty at Marylhurst University and Principal of Suzio Design. Her responsibilities at Marylhurst encompass program development, teaching second-year design studios and guiding the efforts of the program’s internship program, advisory committee, and resource lab operations.
Prior to joining Marylhurst University in 1999, Ms. Suzio had been a senior interior designer with firms in Seattle and Oregon specializing in commercial and healthcare design. She is the 2007-2008 President of IDC-Oregon: The Interior Design Collaborative that is working to enact interior design legislation.
Ms. Suzio holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and is an NCIDQ certificate holder (National Council of Interior Design Qualifications). She is a professional member of IIDA and is currently completing requirements for her Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree.
Vice President: Michelle Barnes, NWSID
Michelle Barnes is the current Vice-president of IDC-Oregon. Her position consists of over-seeing strategic planning for the upcoming year, helping to put together a master calendar of events for IDC-Oregon for 2007-2008, and filling in for the president when she is unavailable.
Ms. Barnes has worked in the field of interior design for 20 years and started her own business called Timeless Interiors in 1996, specializing in new home construction, project management, and renovation. Her work has won awards in both the Street of Dreams and the Clark County Parade of Homes and has been published several times.
Ms. Barnes attended George Fox University and the University of Oregon. She is currently the Professional Development Director for ASID Oregon, and has held numerous positions on the board of NWSID including VP of membership, Ways and Means, VP of Programs and President.
Secretary: Melissa Holladay, IIDA
Melissa Holladay is a senior interior designer at Clark / Kjos Architects, specializing in healthcare design in the Northwest. Her primary responsibilities include budgeting and managing projects, designing interior spaces in hospitals, and working effectively with the firm’s clients to create healthy and safe environments.
Before joining Clark / Kjos, Melissa’s experience encompasses a variety of commercial design, including banking, corporate offices, higher education, and senior living. Currently, she is the 2007-2008 Secretary of IDC-Oregon: The Interior Design Collaborative, an organization working to enact interior design legislation in Oregon.
Melissa is a professional member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Oregon State University. She is a NCIDQ certificate holder (National Council of Interior Design Qualifications), a professional exam that benchmarks competency in the interior design industry. In her leisure time, Melissa enjoys rowing on the Willamette River with her rowing team.
Treasurer: Debra Fugate, ASID
Debra Fugate, Allied Member ASID, is Principal of DBF Interior Design, Inc.
Until September ’07 she simultaneously held the positions of Financial Director for both IDC-Oregon and the Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). She is currently the ASID Oregon Legislative Chairperson.
Debra holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Marylhurst College and has held several Board positions for ASID. DBF Interior Design, Inc. principally has contracts for residential and smaller commercial projects. As an Allied Member of ASID, Debra is currently studying for the NCIDQ.
Legislative Chair : Sermin Yesilada
Sermin holds a bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon and is a graduate of Clark Honors College. She is currently practicing interior design at Bainbridge where she works on a variety of projects including: commercial, healthcare, government, and retail. Passionate about her career and sustainable design, she is a LEED accredited professional. Her interest in civic involvement prompted her to get involved with the Interior Design Collaborative-Oregon and is currently leading legislative activities as Legislative Chair for 2008. Sermin is studying to sit for the NCIDQ examination in June 2008.
Sandy Friend, FASID
Sandra Friend, FASID, is principal of Interior Planning + Design, a lighting and interior design firm in Ashland, Oregon. She is a graduate of Otis/Parsons College of Design in Los Angeles with a degree in Interior and Environmental Design and also holds a BA from Bucknell University.
A strong advocate for state registration of professional interior designers, Sandy served in the leadership of the California legislative coalition during the early 90’s and worked in support of passage of the interior design law that provided self certification.
As president of the Oregon Coalition for Professional Interior Design, Sandy and her leadership team drafted and submitted title registration bills to the Oregon legislature in 1999, 2001, and 2003. Additionally, Sandy has facilitated strategic planning sessions to jump-start coalitions in Arizona, Washington and here in Oregon all of which are currently or have been in the legislative process. And, while the political climate to achieve interior design registration in Oregon has been difficult, Sandy is quick to say that, “I take every opportunity to persuade legislators of their responsibility to Oregonians to legally identify designers who are qualified to protect public health and safety.”
An ASID Fellow, Sandy is former chair of the National Legislative Coalition for Interior Design and has been a member of ASID’s national Legislative Advisory Council and Education and Training Council. Sandy is currently President-Elect of NCIDQ. She has been selected to be included in Who’s Who in Interior Design and Who’s Who in American Women, and is the recipient of NCIDQ’s Louis Tregre award for grass roots volunteer service.

Paige Taylor
Paige Taylor holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture Degree from the University of Oregon and studied Design and Architecture in both Denmark and Italy. She established Paige Taylor Design in 1995 and has design experience in Hospitality, Medical and Retail projects, as well as commercial Tenant Improvement work. She currently specializes in residential remodel design, custom furniture design, and lighting design. Paige’s enjoys being with friends, water sports, reading, and church activities. Paige is currently on the board for IDC-Oregon representing Independent Designers.
ASID Liaisons:
Karla Green, ASID
Karla Green is a principal in the interior design firm of Green & Milligan Design, Inc. She and a Marylhurst classmate founded the design/build firm in 2007 that specializes in kitchen and bath remodeling, and commercial and dental office space planning, with an emphasis on sustainability.
Environmental concerns have been an important part of Ms. Green’s professional life. Starting with local community issues and growing to an international awareness, sustainability decisions are integral to her design work. She gained a sensitivity to cultural and environmental affairs while a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, and while living in England and Israel. Further volunteer efforts expanded her sense of community and the importance of sustainable efforts.
Ms. Green holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Marylhurst University in Interior Design; she was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society and the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She also attended Carnegie Mellon University, College of Fine Arts and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. When not traveling with or to her family, she can be found designing in Portland.
Cindy Strike
Cindy Strike is a recent graduate of The Art Institute of Portland, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. She has experience as a design consultant for residential furniture showrooms and as an assistant to designers in various phases of the design process. She is passionate about sustainable design, is a member of the Cascadia Green Building Council and serves on the Communications Committee of the Emerging Green Builders Portland Chapter.

Jan Eckelman:
Jan Eckelman serves on the IDC-Oregon board as one of three IIDA Liaisons (International Interior Design Association).
She has been practicing commercial interior design since 1981 in Portland and San Francisco, and is an Associate Partner with Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects, where she has worked for the past 20 years. She has participated in a variety of higher education, hospitality, and corporate design projects and has specialized in healthcare projects for the last 14 years.
Ms. Eckelman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and completed the Pre-Professional Architecture Program at Portland State University. She is an NCIDQ Certificate Holder (National Council for Interior Design Qualification), a Professional member of IIDA and currently serves on the IIDA Board of Directors as Chapter Advisor.
