IDC-Oregon is dedicated to shaping the future of the interior design profession preparing us for the demands of a rapidly changing environment. Our work includes setting a minimum level of competency for education, experience, and examination that best defines a single profession, regardless of specialty practice areas.

We believe regulation of the interior design profession safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of the general public, unifies the profession, defines responsibility, and encourages excellence. Through these established standards, interior design legislation protects and benefits the public by ensuring interior designers understand and design according to building codes and safety standards set by government, industry, testing agencies, and construction associations.

Goals:

Our first goal is to seek collaboration within the design community supporting our growth as a profession.

Our second goal is to define the profession through minimum standards of education, experience, and examination for interior designers.

Our third goal is to explore legislation for the interior design profession recognizing the impact of our work on the health, welfare, and safety of the public.

Throughout 2008 IDC-Oregon will be organizing events in collaboration with ASID, IIDA, NWSID, AIA, independent designers, and industry/trade members. These events seek to raise awareness and meaning of the interior design profession.
